Saturday Photohunt: Fresh

Fresh fruit...and what can become of it!

...Fresh grapes are fermented to become a refreshing beverage.
...Fresh olives can be cured in salt to become tasty snacks while sipping a refreshing spritz
...Fresh citrus fruit  can become an ultra refreshing flavour of gelato!!
And what could be tastier than fresh tiny tomatoes and bufalo mozzarella baked on a thin crust of pizza dough...yummy!!!

ABC Wednesday: K is for...

My beautiful daughter and her new husband share their first KISS as a married couple...this shot was snapped by one of their friends.

Another KISS captured our wedding photographer, my friend Charles...he has an amazing eye for creative shots, we couldn't be happier with the wedding photos!

I wonder how many more KISSES you'll find on the ABCW website this week!

Saturday Photohunt: Spicy

In the midst of term papers and post wedding decompression, I am not very creative this week! :) But here is a fabulously tasty chef's special dinner I enjoyed in Ferrara, which included abit of speck (spiced meat) on a bed of lettuce...om nom nom (as my daughter Sara would say!)

Along with the speck, there was also a slice of polenta topped with various mushrooms, a slice of cheese topped with arugula, a piece of bread with melted cheese and cooked spinach, and a piece of souffle (I think.)
This was the chef's special at the Leon d'Oro...it is a surprise, you order it without knowing what will come to you - great fun!

Check out Saturday Photohunt for more spicy entries!

ABC Wednesday: J is for...

Just married!!

My beautiful daughter Sara and my wonderful son-in-law Jake just got married!!

We'd had some nasty weather earlier in the week - rain, freezing rain, snow - but on Saturday morning the skies cleared and the sun shone through for the wedding. After months of planning, and a final couple days of last minute frenzy...everything came together in a magical mix of perfection! The wedding took place in Fort Massey United, a gorgeous old church in Halifax.

Sara was radiant in her blue gown...Jake was handsome in his heirloom jacket (had been in his family for 100ish years, his great-grandfather brought it with him when he emigrated from Denmark to Canada.

The service was a real family affair. My mother and step-father drove the happy couple to the church in their Cadillac (nothing like arriving in style!) My best friend Valerie performed the ceremony (since Sara considers Val her "other mother", there was no question of anyone else doing it.) My younger daughter Moira stood as maid of honour. And Dave, of course, walked his baby girl down the aisle...sniff, sniff...so touching. I played my mother of the bride role beautifully, if I do say so myself! lol Helped Sara get ready, and then took my place in the front pew and beamed my motherly love at them.

I'll get some pics posted soon...just waiting to get the cds from the photographer (aka my friend Charles, who has a real eye for great shots and a flair for the dramatic.)

ABC Wednesday: I is for...

IDLE...sometimes I have to just stop my engine and let my body and soul idle for a while. Which is what I did recently. Just idled away a couple days at the camper...not doing much of anything other than sitting around the bonfire...until we got rained out (or more accurately, ice pelleted out!)

I don't have a photo of this week's idleness, but here I am idling in Castiglione del Lago last summer...

Let your IMAGINATION run wild with the participants of ABC Wednesday this week!!

Saturday Photohunt: Symbols

Words can be powerful symbols...both of my daughters suffer from depression. Both have gone through some really bleak and hopeless periods, when suicidal thoughts rise to the surface as the only way to escape the black hole in which they find themselves. Thankfully, they have always reached out for help before it was too late. I pray they always will find that tiny spark of light that enables them to hang on in the midst of their darkness. Both of them have tattoos that symbolize life and hope, which I find so uplifting!

Sara's tattoo is a lyric from an album called Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood) by a Newfoundland band called Hey Rosetta!...a reminder to keep breathing when anxiety or depression overtakes her...

Moira's tattoo is also one of her own conception. The word Alive is her reminder that it is good to be alive. And the daffodil is a symbol of new life that reminds her to hold on when all feels hopeless.

ABC Wednesday: H is for...

H is for...Happy Face. Like the one on this grilled cheese sandwich made for me by my beloved. Isn't he a sweet and thoughtful husband? This made my day!!

H is also for...Hospital, where I spent most yesterday with my teenage daughter. My beautiful girl struggles with depression and was really struggling to push away the suicidal thoughts, so I took her into emergency to get some help from the crisis team. Such is the state of our mental health system that we had a five hour wait before she got in to see the crisis worker. "The" crisis worker...the one and only mental health crisis worker on duty at the children's hospital, and thus for all of children and teens in the entire municipality. Argh. There are caring and competent people working in the system...but the system itself is an underfunded nightmare. I will spare you my ranting and raving though!

Hop on over to ABC Wednesday and Have a look at what other bloggers have done with the letter H!

Saturday Photohunt: Drop

Dropped calls!
We have wonky service at the camper and often have trouble maintaining reception. Sometimes it's just a matter of shifting sideways in your chair to get a signal...sometimes more drastic measures are needed! I snapped this shot last summer of my friend Valerie atop the picnic table...can you hear me now? lol
